Bicycle wheel rotation is sensed with magnetic Hall effect sensors fixed to the branch that measure the direction and speed of the wheel rotation using magnets placed on the rim of the bicycle wheel. With 24 magnets distributed around the bicycle rim, 10 revolutions of the wheel will take the MIDI channel from 0 to full scale. A microcontroller is used to interface between the Hall effect sensors and the Miditron MIDI controller. The electronics are routed inside the pipes so as to be minimally visible and the protect them from damage. There are connectors at the joints for assembly. In addition to the microphones and Hall effect sensors on the wheels, there will be light sensors, infrared motion sensors, temperature sensors, installed on the trunk and in the speaker housing.
